Katie is a true professional who understands the needs of students and colleagues alike. From her fantastically thorough libguides to her clever, fun book displays, she provides wise, careful, and meaningful instruction in appropriate resources. Emma Willard is lucky to have found such a brilliant, capable researcher and guide in Katie. She is a visionary who will take our library and research spaces into their third century with a perfect balance of gravitas and stylish aplomb.

I have worked with Katie for over 5 years. Her forward thinking and the results of her expertise to transition the library into the 21st century has benefited everyone at our school tremendously. Katie possesses a rare blend of being a tech-savvy social butterfly. Having worked for Microsoft in addition to her academic background (MS in Library and Information Science), she has definitely put her credentials to great use. I’m honored to work with a woman who continually expresses the dedication and passion to emphasize the importance of the library and by making it the source of a community which shines through every corner of the school.

Katie has redefined the meaning of “librarian” for me and for so many of my colleagues. She not only works tirelessly to make the physical library space an inviting and vibrant one for students and faculty alike, but also she dedicates herself to knowing what is happening in every single classroom and then providing any materials and resources that might prove helpful for our lessons. When I began a research paper project with my sophomore students and asked Katie for some help identifying scholarly sources, she enthusiastically prepared and presented an interactive, hands-on lesson for my students that made them both excited and confident about their research. As I watched her present (and learned about many helpful and accessible resources myself), I was impressed with her knowledge, her own teaching abilities, and her personal and supportive interactions with students. When I asked my students for feedback on the research paper process, her visit was overwhelmingly their favorite part of the project.
She is respected by students and faculty because she is on the cutting edge of library science; she is beloved because she is friendly, kind, thoughtful, and fun. “Librarian” doesn’t even begin to capture all that Katie does for GPS; she is a teacher, a leader, a writer, a public speaker, an advisor, a summer camp director, and a technology expert. She is an asset and a rising star.
